Translation Course
Designed to teach translation skills between the Japanese and English languages. The course syllabus at the intermediate stage includes politics, economics, science, environmental issues, but beginners course students must first tackle materials such as music and media studies which include film, music and art.
In English to Japanese classes the teacher concentrates on the methodology of producing good quality texts in Japanese. Native English speakers will check students' Japanese to English texts for accuracy, grammar and vocabulary.
The syllabus is designed to enable students to gradually improve the speed and accuracy of their translations throughout the term. This course is recommended to students who wish to become in-house or freelance translators.
Part time day students must take the full translation module.
- Course DGS - Translation for Beginners – Intermediate (Japanese<->English)
During the first half of the term, students begin by translating short sentences to create fluent Japanese and English texts, which are checked by native speakers. During the second half of the term, our aim is to provide practical training for students to acquire good translation skills and techniques.
By the end of the course students will be expected to write translations up to a semi-professional level and learn to pace themselves effectively.

a. Class times may vary according to changed circumstances such as availability of teachers and depends on the number of students who apply for the course.
b. There will be no classes on Bank or Public Holidays.
c. Numbers of lessons will be reduced if, for example, there are not sufficient enrolled students.
