Interpreting Course
An ideal course for students with no interpreting
experience as well as those with some experience
of interpreting who are interested in a professional standard of training.
The beginners course is aimed at improving language skills in addition to teaching basic interpreting.
The intermediate course focuses on professional training including experience of consecutive
and simultaneous interpreting.
To add more depth to the course weekly classes alternate between English to Japanese and Japanese to English.
We also emphasise revision work to attain a higher standard of interpreting skills.
This is especially recommended for students wishing to become either in-house, freelance or bilingual interpreters. Students taking the part time day class must take the full interpreting module.
- Course DI1&2- Interpreting for
Beginners – Intermediate (Japanese<->English)
During the first half of the term, students begin by interpreting short phrases into Japanese and English, gradually interpreting longer sentences as the term progresses. This is known as a step by step method. Teachers will check students’ interpretation, vocabulary and accuracy. During the second half of the term, the focus will switch to brushing up consecutive interpreting skills through the introduction of a wide range of speech and broadcast materials.
We also build the foundation of simultaneous interpreting techniques.
Studies will include learning glossaries containing specialised terminology.
